The Nursery

So Henry's nursery has been such a fun project room.
I had spent less time in this room than any other rooms in our house.  And now it's my favorite.
For the five years we've been in our home, this room has gone through the most!
It's been particularly ugly most of the time.
One Christmas I was super into homemade gifts and crafts so this became my project room.
These are the only pictures I have because this space was truly boring.

When we moved in the walls were blue. And I left them that way because I never knew what to do with the room.  We always knew it would be the baby's room since it is right next to ours.
But the babies weren't coming!

Between being empty and being full of messes, we also threw a bed in here and had guests stay a lot.

Finally last year or so, Kristen helped me paint.

That's the window valence too.

The white was not necessarily what I wanted in the end for the nursery but for the time being we just had to get rid of that blue.

Fast forward a few years when we finally got pregnant!

The crib came from Hunter's brother, Nate. It's a Jenny Lind drop down.

Hunter converted it so it doesn't drop down anymore.

I bought the black shades on the lamps years ago on Mesa Consign and tried to sell them myself a few times.  They didn't sell so I held onto them.  They're perfect for the room.

Floor lamp is from Home Goods.

While Hunter was doing a few other projects in the house- this became the junk room. It's crazy that this picture was the messy nursery just back in January.

We did a lot in four months!

See the brass lamp from Goodwill! Best find ever.

And that's the new headboard we got for our bedroom.

And that white crib just didn't work out.

Finally emptied the room out.

And we decided to get new carpet. (BEST DECISION EVER.)

Once the carpet came, the crib came back in.  Nursery stuff came in slowly.  I didn't want to crowd this room anymore.

The vinyl triangles were a much more affordable alternative to wallpaper.  I am really sad we couldn't do wallpaper, but really... $500 + for one small wall.   We just couldn't do it.
And our good friend Cameron did the wall vinyl for freeeeeeee.  That's a great alternative.

One night after feeling like the nursery was never going to get done, I just started throwing the vinyl on the wall.  This is how it turned out.  We never looked back!

We bought the dresser right before we got married at a thrift store.  It's a beautiful solid, Thomasville 9-drawer dresser.  IT was in our closet until last year when Hunter remodeled and we got built in drawers.  Since then I knew we would save it for baby's room.

One Saturday Hunter set up shop, literally, and stripped the dresser down to paint it.

Hunter uses lacquer on furniture for a very smooth easy even finish.

It took hours online to find the perfect brass hardware.  The pulls are quite large at 5 1/2 inches from hole to hole.  But they are one of my favorite parts of the nursery.

Hunter and I love to thrift.  And we love to thrift for books.  We have had a nice collection of children's books for a while.  I knew I wanted them featured in the room.

This short wall between the triangles and the window was a perfect spot.

These book ledges are really popular right now. But instead of a short row of two or three, I asked Hunter to build them floor to ceiling wall to window.

He did perfect.

Once the vinyl, the dresser and the bookshelves were in, everything else got put together pretty fast.

The rug just came to me one night.  I thought "we need a rug for more color".  So we sat online during Rug USA's big sales and picked a rug out in about an hour and it was here two days later.

At one of the baby showers, our dear and special friends, Lizzy and Kaci, made Henry the sweetest blankets.  And they coordinated with each other and the nursery! And none of us planned any of that.

Those are treasures.

Things coming together.

After buying new fabric for the valence, we ended up with the same one we had before this was a nursery.

The chevron was too small and a little too cutesie.

The arrows almost happened, but still the pattern seemed a little small for the busy-ness of the room already.

The loop de loop worked just right.

The green chair is borrowed from the family room.
We bought a new baby rocker/ recliner that is currently in the green chair's spot.
It's nice to have a spot to sit for a bit in the nursery.  Although I do not feed Henry here very often.

Little drawers filled with sweet baby clothes and blankets.

This plastic basket is perfect for the top of the dresser next to the changing pad.
Keeps everything tight.
I had been searching for this type of organizer and then my friend Brittany gifted me this basket full of new mom items.  It was perfect. I love when things work out like that.

So here it is- all together.  Henry will take you for a tour....

The print above was made for one of the baby showers by the hostess and then gifted to us.

The prints below...
"Moonlight" print commissioned by Andrea with Little Kit Designs. It's a quote from one of our favorite Ben Fold's songs.  "Let the Moonlight Take the Lid Off Your Dreams".

The Gilbert Temple watercolor was given to Henry by our good friend Jenny.  It is done by a local artist Taylor Town Designs.  Thank you Jenny!

The Lion and the Lamb prints we bought at the Brooklyn Flea Market last May on our NYC trip.
We just knew baby was coming soon.

Henry is resting on a changing table pad cover by local KB Cute Designs.

Andrea (who also took these photos) made Henry the triangle shelf.

The hook is from World Market with a backpack from Gap.

The little lamp on the right of the dresser was given to us by my mom years ago. It's a touch lamp that has made its way around the house being used in all different places.
Can I just say that this lamp was MADE for a nursery.  You just have to touch any of the metal part for the light to go on. There are three levels of brightness. The softest light is a perfect nightlight for late baby checks.  It's easy to turn on and off and DOESN'T MAKE ANY NOISE.

And see that diaper wreath? So clever and cute! Thank you, Shanna!

When the arrows didn't work for the valence, we had some pillows made.

I've had the lion and the turtle since high school.

The whale is made out of ironwood.  Hunter bought it in Mexico when he was in high school.

Boy's already got a bucket of toys!

HUNTER IS A DAD.

HUNTER IS A DAD.

To Hunter:
Happy Father's Day, babe.
Your patience, expertise, attention and love for Henry astound me.
You know exactly what to do.
You know exactly what he needs.
You are patient with every part of him.
Henry will grow up happy, healthy and full of the Spirit because of you.

I love you!
-Natalie

Hugging at the Gilbert Temple grounds:

Staring into each other's eyes playing "tongue tag".

Every night. EVERY night before bed Hunter and Henry cuddle and talk until Henry is sleepy.
Sometimes it's five minutes sometimes it's twenty or more.
As I walk by Henry's dark room, I can hear Hunter talking and singing to him.
It is one of the most reverent and sacred times in our home.

Just some general cuddles:
