Why Summertime is my favorite and also the worst

In Arizona we have two seasons.  Summer and Not Summer.  Summer starts right at the beginning of May and continues through November.

Summertime is my favorite:

My favorite time of the year is right when Summertime is starting. May is glorious.  I love how school is ending, people are planning family vacations.  Girls camp prep is full on.  We're swimsuit shopping.  Thinking about the beach.  Creating bucket lists for Summer.  The libraries are ready for tons of kids every day.  I love how everyone starts swimming.  I always think "this year I'm going to get the best tan".  Never happens.
Grilling seems like the best idea in the world.  There are three national holidays in the Summer that Hunter doesn't have to work.  My piano students are in and out of town so my schedule eases up a lot. People are visiting from out of town.
So in my mind I just see ice cold water, swimming, late-nights, the beach, friends and family and ice cream.

June continues with this lazy, playful, restful feeling.

July 4th is the greatest.  Watermelon football, barbecues, swimming and fireworks, people!

And also the worst:

By about the last week in July though.  Everyone has forgotten how awesome Summer is.  And the horrible school system in AZ decides school should start right at the beginning of August.
August FYI is when the entire country, and a lot of parts of the world, are taking their major vacations. And when it is soooooo extremely uncomfortable in AZ during this month- why WHY WHY WHY are we starting school????????    This is when we should all be on the beach or in the mountains.

This creates the Arizona Seasonal Confusion Depression.

ASCD is in full swing as of today.  We Arizonians read about changing leaves, cooler weather and sweaters in the news and online.  School has begun almost everywhere now.  We feel the need to bake, decorate for the season, and wear boots.  But in all reality, while our souls ache for this change, it is still four months away.

I just can't get excited about pumpkin bread and scarves when it is literally 105 degrees outside.

That's all.
