our weekend in Folsom and Sacramento, CA

First of all, I have to write about how Henry simply adored his cousins.  Especially Mikah.  In the mornings, instead of looking around for me to nurse, he wanted to find Mikah.  Every time we went places, Mikah came in our rental van because "I should be by Henry in case he is sad because I make him happy and he wants me."

Our first drive with Mikah in our car (haha) was to Old Sacramento.  It was a nice busy Saturday, which I actually like busy, at the Old Train Station that is now lots of shops and restaurants.

It was probably the best group of shops and food places of this sort that I've ever been to.

Look at these two:

A closer look at our engineer:

In the best costume shop ever- Henry had his first pony ride.

Such a darling old-western town.

We had a good amount of sweets on this trip- which has made it hard for me to get back on the "no sugar" wagon.  But these treats were some of my favorite.

We had a late start that day and spent quite a few hours in Old Sacramento, so that was all we did that day. We came home, did a little grocery shopping, made and ate dinner, put Henry to bed and got ready for the temple!

I was a little nervous to leave Henry with 11 year old Maesyn and three other little kids for the whole night in a new town not just for us, but for Maesyn too!  It's not like she knew neighbors and stuff for emergencies.  But our sweet baby (and his cousins) were just super fine when we got home.  And Henry slept all while we were gone and then through the night!

Sunday was absolutely beautiful and rainy.  Folsom is a DARLING little city!  Wide open and family-oriented.  Doesn't feel like most of California.  A nice little gem.

Henry and I took a break during Relief Society to enjoy the breeze and grass.  And dissect my purse.

We came home and all made a delicious picnic.  Heidi took us to this park she had spotted right in the middle of a neighborhood across from the kid's elementary school.

I couldn't believe that this absolutely picturesque space was just right there carved out of a neighborhood!

I told everyone to "look like you are in a sitcom".  :-)

Can we talk about this tree?!?!

We finished up and ended up running back to the car in the pouring rain.  Which was actually a PERFECT end to our Sunday Picnic.

That night we had delicious fish tacos for dinner and games late into the night.

Monday, a week now away from home, was our last day for the trip.
We had breakfast at Karen's Bakery.  And I want to go back to Folsom just to eat at Karen's again.
Then we went to Folsom Prison.
I could not figure out why everyone wanted to go to a Prison.
But! It's actually pretty famous.  And it was totally interesting.

Henry was a little cranky in the prison museum.  So I took him outside on the bench and nursed and fed him.  We snuggled on this beautiful day and just took a break together.
I love little moments like these with Henry that stick in my mind.

Then it was time to pack up for the last time! Henry and his cousins had a hard time saying goodbye. Even Ben on the far left was sad.  I promise.

Another long drive back to the San Francisco airport.  Traffic was a lot better this time.

Crossing the Bay Bridge, and then the traffic!! Oh California.

Henry hamming it up with Grandma as we waited for our flight.

Our little acrobat just climbed up on this chair by himself and as always, got everyone's attention and chatted it up with strangers.

Our late flight home was so great.  I will remember that moment a lot from our trip.
There were about 20 empty seats on our flight so Henry got to travel in his carseat. And he slept the entire time without a peep.  Hunter and I got to talk and cuddle and reflect on our glorious trip and our glorious life.  We talked and talked and then as always when we return from trips, we planned with excitement for the next parts of our life.

I love how vacations refresh your mind and reset your goals.

And the food.
